Bearded Birdie is een initiatief van vijf Nederlandse ontwerpers. Allen zijn al enige tijd zeer actief binnen hun vakgebied; van mode tot illustratie. De Bearded Birdie webshop is opgericht als onafhankelijk kanaal voor resultaat uit vrij werk, zij-project of voor een geheel eigen lijn. In ieder geval stuk voor stuk items geboren uit persoonlijke fascinaties en voor het plezier van het maken. Vrijwel alles wordt uitgevoerd in eigen beheer en in kleine oplages. Wat je bij BB vindt is dus even uniek als een bearded birdie!

Bearded Birdie is an initiative of five Dutch designers. Whom all are highly active within their field of expertise, from fashion to illustration. The Bearded Birdie webshop is established as an independent channel for their products, made as ‘free work’, side project or for their own special brand. So you could say that each item is born out of personal fascination and the sheer joy of creation. Production is kept in artisan spirit and excecuted in small editions, so what’s found on BB is unique like a bearded birdie!

Arjen de Jong graduated in 2001 from Willem de Kooning academy of fine Arts, Rotterdam. Ever since he worked as a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and artist. He is a founding member of the buro Duplex freelance collective (2004 – present). He has also initiated independent projects like the Stereo publication, for which he operated as ccordinator and artdirector (2005 – 2008). Right now his work has a focus on design for web and print.
Fashion designer Catta Donkersloot started her own label in 2006 after graduating from her Masters at the ArtEZ Fashion Institute Arnhem (FIA). Her graduation collection was awarded with a Mittelmoda award in Italy in 2007. In 2008 Catta was rewarded with the international IAF award for most creative design. In november 2008 Catta opened her own shop in Amsterdam and started her second label Imoto-chan in May 2009. Catta showcased her work in the Netherlands, Italy, Belarus, Berlin, Paris, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
In 2007 character designer Diana van der Voort Started her own Plush toys label Animal rescue Plush after her study at the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague, Eindhoven, Utrecht and Arnhem.
Ingrid de Lugt graduated at the Willem de Kooning Academy of Fine Arts in 2002. She works as a freelance illustrator/designer on a wide range of projects for national and international clients. Her studio is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In 2009 she started her t-shirt and product label Fuji Fumi. De Lugt’s work has been exhibited internationally – from Amsterdam to Japan.
Photographer Lisa Kortenhorst graduated with honours in 2004 from the Photoacademy Amsterdam. Since her graduation Lisa works as a freelance photographer around the world. In 2008 she was awarded with silver award for portraits By the London Photographic Association. In may 2009 she opened her gallery the T room in Berlin. Recently she was awarded the prestigous Panl award in Amsterdam. Her work has been exhibited in Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Portugal and Jordan.
